Word Count;; 1336
Warning/Notes;; Sappy romance and cheesy-ness will be used in the story. Especially with the pick up line. This is probably what I get for watching cheesy movies...
I have never written a 'romantic' type story, but I got in the mood since some of my roleplays on a different site or well two. Any who, I was looking up some prompts when an idea finally hit me when I saw the idea to fill 'M&M in a cigarette box' and the prompt wanted you to place it somewhere in the story. I might do more with these two because they seem adorable together, but this is all I got for now. Also,I noticed I've been writing in first person a lot, which is actually pretty rare for me. I normally write in third person, but for some reason I'm really starting to like first person.
The night sky was dark and vast, but filled with tiny little lightbulbs that shined down on Earth as if to light the way to someplace far away. As a mere child, I had always been told that stars were a guide to human kind and that they could lead you into fortune, wealth and love. Staring deep at the moon, I lie in a field deep in the country after all, the stars seemed to shine the brightest. Letting out a content sigh, I closed my eyes as I listened to every little sound around me.
Crickets chirped, and an occasional Owl would make its voice heard. Each time the Owl called out I was tempted to say my name, but I resisted the urge. Instead, I just allowed myself to enjoy this little moment after all, in a few weeks school would be starting which meant my trips to the country would have to stop. Instead, my weekends would be filled with homework, projects, studying, and friends trying to hang out with me. My nose cringed as I could already feel the stress building up in my system.
"Did you know that if a star is big enough that after it goes through its Supernova stage it can turn into a light eating black hole?" A voice perceived through the night, and I felt a presence of someone looming over more before I cracked a smile. I didn't need to open my eyes to know it was Chase Parker, the boy who had been my best friend since the start of first grade. The same boy who I had fallen for a few years back when we turned fourteen.
"In fact I did know that fact. Now quit being a stranger with nature and grab yourself a seat." Opening one of my eyes, I could see his flawless grin as he sat next to me. Not only that, but he was wearing his brown leather jacket with some blue jeans which made him look a few years older, then what he truly was. God everything about him was perfection and I wouldn't be surprised if he came all this way just to tell me he was an angel.
"I'll admit that I might have cheated. I sort of looked up some star facts just so I could amaze you. Should I keep going?" Glancing over at me, his flawless grin now settled into a bright smile that could be compared to the stars themselves. If only I could smile a little wider, or express how my heart seemed to flutter each time he smiled at me, then maybe he would ask me out already... "Keep going. I'm not flattered enough already." I chirped up lightly as I slowly pulled myself up as he legs crossed over in a criss-cross so I could sit beside him as he tried to amaze me with his googled facts.
"Did you know that the color of a star is determined by its temperature, which is determined by its mass?" Another fact was given to me, and I nodded as I had already known that simple fact due to my astrology club. A brief pauses came from him as he struggled to find something his jacket pocket and I watched with amusement. Pulling out a small box, my face twisted in disgusted as he was holding a cigarette pack. My reaction only caused him to grin as he leaned over, offering the pack to me. "No, I don't smoke. You know it kills you." Just as I was about to start my rant on how smoking kills, he popped open the top part only to show that the pack of cigarette had been filled with tiny pieces of candy.
"I was in a rush to get over here so I just grabbed the nearest thing in the kitchen. Should be cleaned thought." He reassured me as he took a couple of pieces of candy and tossed them into his mouth. I shook my head before giving him a light punch on the shoulder for scaring the crude out of me. “Idiot.” I muttered before I took a few pieces of candy for myself and tossed them into my mouth as well. We sat in silence as we ate the candy after all, words didn't need to fill every second we spent together. Be so close meant that we could enjoy each other’s company without feeling the need to chatter about meaningless topics.
“Want to know another fact about stars?” The silence was broken, and for some reason I felt Chase tone was odd. It wasn't filled with cheer nor the confidence he normally had, but instead it sounded almost frightened. As if at any moment I would lash out upon him as if he had done something wrong. Biting my lip, I wondered what could cause such a change in his tone and so I tried to lighten the mood by playfully shoving his shoulder.
“You should know by now that I know every fact there is to know about stars.” Teasing lightly and cracking another smile, I tried to get him to return the same look, but his face was rather serious. “I swear you won’t know this one, okay?” The whole scene was quite startling as I had never known for him to be this serious. Perhaps he was trying to pull some sort of joke at me, but I couldn't help, but to feel little butterflies punching my gut as if trying to escape. "Okay." I finally answered back hoping his serious tone and face would fade into a grin with a cheerful laugh followed by 'Oh man, I got you so good!' where I would in returned get pissed off for scaring the life out of me.
"The brightest star in the entire galaxy is actually Lillian Fields." I felt heat rise to my face, and glanced away as I was sure I was blushing. It was the cheesy thing I have ever heard in my life, but at the same time I loved it. I heard the rustling of grass, and soon felt him leaning on me as he draped his arms around each of my shoulders."Lila." Chase half whispered it out just as the owl made another sound that was close to 'who' which would have made me laugh if I was trying to figure out if Chase had become some sort of a mind reader or if he finally started to realize that I actually liked him more, then a friend.
"I hate to say, but I knew that fact too." I allowed an uneasy grin to settle on my face as I felt his chest vibrate slightly when he let out a soft chuckle. "Of course I should have known that. Darn I guess I'm not the brightest star in the galaxy, then?" Another chuckle seemed to pass through his lips, but it could have been due to the awkwardness that had risen from his sudden little confession.
"I think you went over this briefly, but doesn't mass also determine how bright the star is because of the whole temperature." I replied back, as I shrugged his arm off my shoulder and turned around to face him."So you're telling me I'm the biggest and brightest star instead of you?" The seriousness in his face seemed to fade and be replaced with a red blush that probably matched my own.
"Compared to you I'm small, but together we can be brighter?" I suggested as he scooted closer to me giving off another chuckle, but this time it wasn't awkward. It was one filled with amusement and could melt a puppy's heart.
"I like that idea." He replied back as I leaned into him with a content smile on my face.
"I thought you would." I chirped back as my gaze went back to the night sky. Perhaps this year of school wouldn't be as bad as I thought it would be.
